The Cody Statue project took a major step forward on Wednesday 6 February 2013 when Trustees of the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) visited the Andover studio of renowned sculptor Vivien Mallock to view the maquette (scale model) and gave the go-ahead for the full size statue.
The statue is to commemorate Samuel Franklin Cody who made the first flight in an aeroplane in the UK from Farnborough on 16 Oct 1908.
The statue, in memory of aviator Samuel Cody who was killed in a flying accident 100 years ago was unveiled on the 6 August 2013. The statue in Farnborough is close to where he achieved the first powered flight in the country.
